Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dream Frog?

Dream Frog is a streaming platform designed specifically for independent music. We use a payment model called the user-centric model. Your subscription costs are distributed directly to the artists you listened to.

How does the user-centric payout model work?

Instead of pooling all subscription fees and dividing them based on total platform streams, we take each user's subscription fee and distribute it proportionally to the artists they actually listened to that month. This means your subscription directly supports the artists you love.

How much does a subscription cost?

We're targeting an $11/month subscription.

Can I use Dream Frog as an artist?

Yes! Dream Frog welcomes independent artists. You can create an artist profile, upload your music, and start earning from streams immediately. Our platform is designed to give artists better control over their music and fairer compensation.

What about label owners?

Label owners can also join Dream Frog to manage multiple artists and releases. Our platform supports both individual artists and labels, making it easy to distribute and monetize independent music.

When will Dream Frog launch?

Late 2025.

What makes Dream Frog different from other streaming platforms?

Dream Frog focuses on independent music and uses a user-centric payout model. This means artists get paid more fairly, and listeners directly support the artists they love. We're built by and for the independent music community.

Can I download music from Dream Frog?

Yes, Dream Frog supports music downloads in addition to streaming. When you purchase music, you can download high-quality files to keep forever, giving you both streaming convenience and ownership options.

How do I join the waitlist?

Simply visit our homepage and enter your email address in the waitlist form. You can also let us know whether you plan to use the platform as a listener, artist, or label owner to help us better understand our community.

Will there be a mobile app?

Yes.

What is "gating" and how does it work?

Gating is a feature that allows artists to control access to their releases by requiring listeners to purchase the music before they can stream it. When an artist gates a release, subscribers must buy the album to unlock full streaming access. This gives artists more flexibility in how they monetize their work and run their business, offering both traditional streaming revenue and direct sales opportunities.

Does Dream Frog use algorithmic music recommendations?

We aim to minimize the use of algorithmic music recommendations as much as possible. Instead, Dream Frog favors real human music recommendations from curators, artists, and fellow listeners. We believe that genuine human connections and shared musical experiences create more meaningful discoveries than automated algorithms. This approach helps preserve the authenticity and personal touch that makes independent music special.

Will there be ads on Dream Frog?

No, Dream Frog will not have any advertisements. We believe in providing a clean, uninterrupted listening experience for our users. Our revenue comes entirely from subscriptions and music purchases, allowing us to focus on what matters most: the music and the artists who create it.
